This week I’m joining the party and linking up with one of my favorite blogs and sharing 5 things from my week. If you get a chance after you read this post, jump over and check put my friend Kacey at Doodle Bugs Teaching.
First up, a little about whats been happening in my world. On December 13th I was leaving school and made a wondrous attempt to end my life….screeeeeeech! Well ok I wasn’t try to end my life but if you ask my husband he will tell you that the fall semester was a brave journey and trial to stay alive. On October 31, while driving to school I was in a life threatening accident when I was t-boned at highway speeds. I was driving my Smart car and one would think that being t-boned by an SUV would mean that I would be less than o.k. Miraculously, I walked away from the rollover and after only one day off from work, I returned, bruised and battered, to teach my littles.
Well, fast forward to December 13ht! While leaving school, I was at the top of a flight of stairs (my classroom was upstairs in a two story school) and I stepped off the stair wrong and tumbled down landing on my hip and cracking my skull on the cement floor. The worst part was my students saw the whole thing. Bless their hearts. Laying their unconscious, one of my students was quick on his feet and ran to get another teacher. Children were cleared from the area, crying that they had just witnessed their teacher in a seriously scary fall, and I was rushed to the hospital. Fast forward to now, and I am still at home recovering from a broken kneecap, some pinched nerves, bruising, and worst of all a MAJOR concussion.
Now we have all hit our heads at one point or another, but a serious concussion is no joke. Speech issues, motor function, thought control, sleepless night, emotional mood swings, and personality changes have wreaked havoc on mine and my husbands lives. I am recovering, and in physical therapy, but my current status compared to a much more dark ending to the terrible fall is preferable. It will be a long recovery process to get completely back to normal but in mean time I am finally getting to work on some things i have been putting off for a while….like my blog.
So apparently I am not the only clumsy person in my family. My sweet fur baby Ace decided mommy was getting too much attention and decided to get in on the actions. My husband is going to be a full certified nurse before this is all over. Ace likes to take walks on the trails we have on our property and we love the fact that he can run free and be a dog. He chases rabbits, and other small animals and has even cornered a skunk a time or two. Thank goodness he is smart enough to keep a safe distance from them. He loves the deer and is so sweet not to chase them. Well his luck wasn’t so good this past week and he ran across a piece of barbed wire while chasing a rabbit. His resulting wound was about a 4 inch GASH on his chest. OUCH! A trip to the vet, surgery and some very stout pain meds and he is lapping up being nursed back to health. He has a few weeks of recovery to go but never fear, he is already biting at the bit to be off leash and getting to run and play again.
This week I got to celebrate with a dear sweet friend and colleague! I had the privilege of teaching with her in Houston before we both traveled back to our hometowns, me in Lubbock and her in California! What were we celebrating? This Magical Teacher won Teacher of the Year! For real! We already knew she was fabulous and if you haven’t discovered her you need to jump on over and click the image to check her out!
She even inspired me to put a little magic into my teaching!
While recovering I have also had time to catch up on some reading! What’s on my reading list right now? The Wild Card Of Course! This amazing book has not come too late. While my classroom has become a virtual one (more on that in a bit), I have found so many useful and insightful tips to spice up my teaching style. Here’s my favorite quote and then a link where you can purchase the book for yourself….but I am sure you already have!
Last, but not least, what am I am going to do now that I am not returning to the classroom anytime soon? You had to know I couldn’t stay away from teaching. I tried a few years ago and it didn’t work. I missed my students and the love of seeing those lightbulbs flicker on for the first time. Enter VIPKID! I have been teaching with them for about a month now and I am happy to report I LOVE IT! I get to teach from the comfort of my home, in my pj bottoms and the students are, well….AMAZING!
I am going to do a whole blog post on VIPKID soon but if you are interested you can use my referral link to sign up for information. The best part, send me a message and I will be your personal coach through the whole process. If you are a traditional teacher in the classroom still, a stay at home mom, homeschooler, or just looking for a way to work remotely, this could be for you! CLICK HERE for more info! Who doesn’t like extra money?
So what have you been up to? Got big palms for the weekend? Have questions about the information above? Leave a comment below and I will respond as soon as possible. Thanks for stopping by! Have a great weekend!
