Hello and welcome to The Field Trip Teacher! We are so happy you have joined us for this journey!
This journey has been a dream of ours for some time. We are excited to be sharing it with you through this podcast!
In this first episode, we wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves and get to know you a little better!
Who are we?
I’m a veteran elementary school teacher who taught in the brick and mortar classroom for 16 years. I have taught in a traditional public school, charter schools and private schools. Collectively I have taught in pre-k through 5th grades. The majority of my career was in kinder and first grade. I also am the creative behind Mrs. Shipley’s Classroom. There I share my classroom resources and professional development with teachers all over the world for the past 8 years. A year ago, I started a new journey to teach ESL online to students in China. Now I enjoy traveling overseas each morning to meet my eagerly awaiting students. I am happily married to my husband Kevin. Together we run our edupreuer business from the road.
I was in the military for 9 years before becoming a police office where I spent 26 years do what I felt was my life’s calling until I realized that working the streets was a young mans job and I wasn’t a young man anymore. I promised myself that when the job wasn’t fun anymore I wasn’t going to stay and I would move on.
If your heart isn’t in it then your not at the top of your game and that isn’t a profession that you can’t be at the top of your game. So, I retired and we decided to follow our dream of traveling full time. Now I am the support staff behind Mrs. Shipley’s Classroom and together we run a full time eduprenuer business from the road.
Where is home?
Currently, we are traveling across North America in our 43′ fifth wheel, affectionately known as Beauty! She has been all the way up through the mid-United States and down the east coast!
We home base out of East Texas where we have some property that allows us to stop and regroup when we need to make repairs or take a break for a few weeks while deciding where to go next.
We started the podcast as a way to share our thoughts and ideas regarding our chosen lifestyle of being full time travelers. There are so many intricacies related to living location independent and being entrepreneurs. We wanted a way to share what we have learned throughout this journey with others who might be interested in living this way as well.
This podcast will be an addition to Mrs. Shipley’s Classroom which many of you have been a part of for years. It will be a hub for sharing all the topics that Kevin just mentioned but also a place to share tips and strategies for classroom teachers that were successful for me and my students both when I was in the brick and mortar classroom as well as my online classroom now.
You can expect to hear a variety of topics here on The Field Trip Teacher. We will be discussing topics for teachers in the classroom, online teachers, teacher creatives, eduprenuers, and general tips and strategies if you are looking to join the revolution over becoming location independent while still generating income!
Most of the time it will be me, Farrah, who you will hear….Kevin will be taking care of a lot of the behind the scenes stuff that makes a podcast run. However, you will get to hear some of our banter back and forth on certain episodes where we will be talking about topics together.
So, there you have it! We are so excited that you have joined us and look foward to meeting each of you over in The Field Trip Teacher Community on FB! Be sure to jump on over and join us for open discussions about our lives on the road as full time entreprenuers.
See ya on the road,
